99% of the wood I use in my creations is from sustainable sources or is recycled. Wood is a precious resource and I like to do my best not to let my work deplete its dwindling supply. Where I can I like to buy wood that is recycled or that can’t be put to use for other larger items, I don’t see the sense in buying a 6’ long board in order to cut it into strips for miniature bowls. Instead I try and buy pieces that are large enough for me but small enough not to be of use for other craftsmen, cabinet makers etc. sometimes this isn’t possible especially with the exotic woods where you have to buy pieces that are entirely cut from large boards. An example of recycled wood is my stock of Burma Teak, this is all from a recycled park bench not only is it good for the environment but it is a wonderful experience to work with which has seasoned for 100 year. I always get a thrill from working with a slice of history.
